“Love one another as I have loved you.”
John 13:34
Our Cut-Ups ministry began in 2019, inspired by the Dress a Girl Around the World organization and their beautiful mission: to ensure that every little girl has at least one dress made just for her. We expanded that vision to include shorts for little boys as well, making sure no child is forgotten.
Every two weeks, our Cut-Ups gather to cut simple patterns for dresses and shorts and prepare complete kits in a variety of cheerful colors and patterns. These kits are placed on tables in the church’s main entrance and in the breezeway between the church and the Parish Center, ready for anyone who feels called to help. No sewing experience is needed to be a Cut-Up — just willing hands and a generous heart.
Our Stitch-Ups — our wonderful “Super-Sew-ers” — take the kits home and bring them to life with creativity, care, and skill. Once completed, the garments are delivered to Friar Suppliers, who lovingly pack and ship them to Haiti.
Over the years, our St. Mark’s family has shown extraordinary generosity, always providing what is needed and living out the words of Jesus: “Love one another as I have loved you.” (John 13:34)
The photos we receive from Haiti say more than words ever could — children beaming in their bright new dresses and shorts, each outfit a small treasure in a place where so little is guaranteed. It is a privilege to know that something made with love here brings joy, dignity, and hope to a child far away.
