“Then he took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to them, saying, ‘This is my Body given for you; do this in remembrance of me.’ He did the same with the cup after supper, and said, ‘This cup is the new covenant in my blood poured out for you.’ ”

Eucharistic Ministers have been entrusted to serve the community in a special and particularly visible manner. The Eucharistic Minister accepts the responsibility of being an example of Christian living in faith and conduct. By serving in this way, the Eucharistic Minister communicates that we are the Body of Christ and that in receiving communion we say “Amen” to being members of this Body. Eucharistic Ministers remember that though many, we are one body because we share the one bread and the one cup. The action of giving and receiving communion, then, becomes an act of reaffirmation for the Eucharistic minister and for the communicant. At St. Mark’s, Eucharistic ministers are entrusted with this essential service at Mass, communion services, and for the sick or homebound.

“The blessing cup, which we bless, is it not a sharing in the blood of Christ; and the loaf of bread which we break, is it not a sharing in the body of Christ?”
